The Southwestern Michigan Association of Realtors® and the Michigan Association of Realtors® provided $2,477 Placemaking Grant to help make Milton Township to be a better place to live and work by transforming an unused space into vibrant place for the community to gather and enjoy.

The grant is intended to help Realtor Associations partner with others to plan, organize, implement and maintain Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper Placemaking projects in their communities.

The grant from Southwestern Michigan Association of Realtors® will be used to improve the park/playground area located next to the Township Hall. The township plans to purchase items that will help the area stay organized with a bike rack and to stay clean with pet waste free and trash receptacles.

Cori Buchard, Township Treasurer, explained, “The playground is in need of commercial strength trash cans with tops that are covered to protect the inside from collecting snow and rain. There is also a need of bike racks for the individuals and families who visit our park and playground area to park their bicycles.

Burchard continued, “The total budget for this project is $10,000 and we are hoping to have it completed in May. We will also be adding bbq grills in our park area. So families can come to our playground and stay

for lunch, dinner or have snacks and having the option to grill will attract more people to our area to enjoy the great outdoors.

Mark E. VanDusen, Cressy & Everett R. E. was the Realtor sponsor for the Milton Township Park grant. VanDusen explained the reason for his endorsement, “Milton Township’s new Hall and playground is in an exceptional location for the community to play, have picnics, and hold family events. They need of bike racks, so bikes can be stored in an orderly fashion instead of leaning them up against the building or on the ground. They also need good quality covered trash receptacles, so snow and/or rain don't fill the trash cans. As Realtors we can show the Community that we care about how Milton Township’s new playground and picnic areas look, by providing the trash receptacles and bike racks they need. We plan to volunteer to help them assemble the racks and/or trash receptacles when they arrive.

“Realtors® live, work and volunteer in their communities and take immense pride in working to improve them,” said Robert Kaufman, President of the Southwestern Michigan Association of REALTORS®, Inc.

“Placemaking can help foster healthier, more social and economically viable communities. It creates places where people feel a strong stake in their neighborhoods and are committed to making things better. This grant will allow us to address areas in our community that need enhancement and revitalization and create a place where friends and neighbors can come together.”

Placemaking grants are awarded to local and state Realtor® associations to help them and their members create new public spaces and destinations in a community, like turning a parking spot into a people spot or a vacant lot into a pocket park. Realtor® associations and their Realtor® members are actively engaged in the community and know the neighborhoods and the properties that would benefit most from these improvement efforts.

“As the Milton Township area becomes more attractive and welcoming, nearby properties may also increase in value,” stated Kaufman.
